Cozydale

Hello and welcome to the Cozydale Project. Here you can find out more about the project, how you can get involved and register for your interest in a free training place.

Retrofit is the term used to describe measures that make a building more energy efficient. This can be things like solar panels, heat pumps and insulation. Insulation is one of the most important measures to retain heat so that buildings are more comfortable and to reduce heating bills which will also lower its carbon footprint. In Calderdale, 69,000 properties need to be insulated by 2038 to meet national targets but for a variety of reasons, including a shortage of skills in this area, we are not currently on course to achieve this.

Cozydale has been funded by Calderdale Council’s Climate Emergency Fund and is being delivered by Todmorden Climate College in Town, Park and Warley wards. We are working with three community organisations to retrofit insulation to part of their buildings using alternative and natural forms of insulation. This is a unique opportunity to learn these much needed skills whilst giving something back to your community!

You will be working with a small group of other volunteers over ten days which will be split over several weeks meaning you will need to be able to commit to one or two days throughout September and/or October. Dates will be announced shortly. You will receive expert tuition by natural building tutors, a couple of days learning the theory and the rest will be hands on installation of either internal insulation, external insulation or both and will involve plastering to finish. You don’t need any existing skills as everything you need to know will be covered by the course. All expenses will be covered by the project. At least one group will be women only (including women trainers) to comply with the requirements of our partner organisation so please let us know if you are a woman and would prefer to be part of this group.

At the end of the installation period, you will be invited to a celebration event where the plaque will be unveiled that details the outcomes of the project and to say thanks for everyone’s hard work.

If you would like to discuss this opportunity further, please contact Natalie on 07881952542 or email Natalie.ratner@tlchub.org.uk. Please fill out the form to register your interest and we will be in touch soon.
