Retrofit For Tradespeople

Retrofit is improvement work on an existing building to make it more energy efficient, easier to heat, and able to retain that heat for longer. Retrofitting of houses is crucial to tackling climate change. This course will be about retrofitting “hard to treat” buildings and aims to upskill tradespeople with specific retrofit skills.

We are running brand new Retrofit For Tradespeople courses at Tod College. These courses are completely FREE(the college can also support with travel and lunch expenses) and are a fantastic opportunity to gain practical retrofit skills to help you excel further in your career whilst working on a real-life project.

It will be a mostly practical course and you will be doing manual work and working at heights on most days. You will need to wear appropriate clothing for carrying out manual work that covers arms, legs and chest and strong, sturdy boots.

This course will feature:

  • Fabric first approach to retrofit exploring a range of approaches to insulation of traditional stone houses.
  • Learn to use sustainable materials suitable for older, stone and heritage buildings such as lime-hemp, hempcrete and wood-fibre insulation.
  • Practical and theoretical training including hands-on sessions, site visits, and real-world applications.
  • Future-proof your skills to stay competitive and meet rising client demand for eco-friendly solutions.
