Tod College is your community centre and there are lots of ways to get involved with Todmorden Learning Centre and Community Hub:
Become a Trustee
Todmorden Learning Centre and Community Hub is pleased to announce and invite nominations for the election of a member to join its Board of Trustees. It is especially important that nominees and those making nominations for elected positions on the TLCCH Board have read the following information before submitting their nomination.
The TLCCH is a charitable community benefit society (BenCom). This means that whilst it is a membership organisation in which members vote for up to three elected representatives to serve on the Board, the work of the organisation and its Trustee Board is for the benefit of the community at large, not for the benefit of its members. Of course, members are likely also to be members of the community at large but the benefits of the work of the TLCCH must be available to all regardless of their status as members or otherwise.
Each nomination for an elected Board role must be made by a registered member of the organisation. The person being nominated must also be a member. Information about membership can be found here.
Via the provisions of the Cooperative and Community Benefit Societies Act 2014, the Board of Trustees are answerable to the Financial Conduct Authority for the good governance of the organisation which must be in line with the provisions of the constitution, the legal governing document.
To deliver our mission we need an effective Board. Members of the Board need to have time, skills and energy to carry out a range of tasks and to collaborate effectively as part of a cohesive group. Nominees will need to be committed to delivering the vision of TLCCH and whilst having skills to offer, be available to carry out general and specific tasks as the need arises. Currently Board members are putting in an average of ten hours per week. Nominees will need to demonstrate their understanding and commitment to delivery of the vision and objectives of the TLCCH.
If you would like to actively support our aims and goals by joining as a member, please read our membership process, then complete and submit the Application for Membership form, below.
There are lots of ways in which you can help us with our work. Our volunteers have lots of fun whilst making a really worthwhile contribution to the College and the local community.
The roles we are currently recruiting for are described below.
Our volunteer receptionists welcome visitors to the Colllege with a cheery hello and a friendly smile!
Most volunteers have a regular slot for half a day or an evening each week. As well as 'meeting and greeting' our reception team respond to booking enquiries and general requests for information about the College. They answer the phone and monitor the reception email box, received deliveries and sort post, ensure that visitor sign in, and keep an eye on the CCTV. You will enjoy this volunteering opportunity if you like meeting people, and are good at communicating and problem solving. Sometimes it can be quiet (so feel free to bring a book to read!) but now that lots of things are starting to happen the receptionist's role can become quite busy.
We run training sessions for new reception volunteers and you will join an experienced receptionist for a session or two before going it alone. There are always staff in the building to refer to if anything unexpected crops up.
Our dear old College building has been rather neglected over the last few years. We are determined to bring it up to scratch so that our community has a great place to meet, learn, exercise, organize, have fun, and relax. It is a big building and we are seeking funding for some big refurbishment projects. However there are lots of room, corridors, and spaces that can be improved rapidly by a bit of 'TLC' and a splash of paint.
If you love a bit of filling and sanding, are handy with paint brush, or rock it with a roller why not come and give us a hand. We organize frequent 'working party' days but we also have ongoing projects which volunteers can help out with.
As you'd expect, we are only using environmentally-friendly, healthy decorating products and have entered into a partnership with German company DPM Mashel who product natural paints in powder form to cut out the costly transport of water from factory to site. Here's some more information about their Farnovo paint range
